The development of Concarneau is mainly due to the growth of the cannery industry. The oldest one, Courtin cannery, was founded in 1893 and has created a museum to share its history with visitors. Gonidec cannery produces sardines and other canned fish for gourmets and collectors. Jean Burel, a cannery established for decades in Concarneau, has just opened a new manufacturing and sales area. The fish-based “recettes maison” are combined with products from organic farming.
